Coaches have been around doing what they do best for years. Whether it’s sports, career and life or some miscellaneous type of activity, it’s the coach that makes it all happen.

Anyone the follows sports, especially football, know the history of the Lou Saban coaching career. Most athletes that become coaches do it because of their love of the game. Some are athletes that for one reason or another can no longer play the game, perhaps due to injury or often some other reason.

The Lou Saban coaching career began in the 1950s when Lou was head coach at Case Institute, a University in Cleveland, Ohio, assistant coach at Northwestern University, and in 1955 named head coach at Northwestern.

Lou had his own style of coaching, and it was that style that made him the famous successful coach he was. In 1957, Lou moved to Western Illinois University, where his team had a 9-0 record under his excellent leadership skills as head coach.

He made a name for himself there until he decided to go to professional football. The next move in the Lou Saban coaching career was when Lou went to become the coach for the Boston Patriots (now known as New England Patriots).

Lou stayed with the Patriots for two years and then moved onto the Buffalo Bills.

Given the nickname, “Trader Lou, Saban had a style of coaching that won him love, loyalty and respect from his players. He had a tough drill for the players and made them want to work the best they could for the four years he was with them. Lou set out to make them a good offensive team and a better defensive team.

His knowledge and persistence paid off. Thanks to the greatness of the Lou Saban coaching career, the Buffalo Bills went to the AFL championships in both 1964 and 1965. This was an accomplishment no other coach was ever able to do with the Buffalo Bills.

The Lou Saban coaching career did not end there with his success. When Lou left Buffalo, he became head coach at the University of Maryland and then, went on to work with the Denver Broncos (1967-1969) as their coach for several years, where he was named as Coach of the Year. Lou Saban is also a member of the American Football League Hall of Fame.

He eventually found his way back to the Buffalo Bills from 1972 to 1976. In addition to all the over accomplishments in the Lou Saban coaching career, Saban always was credited with making O.J. Simpson the football legend he is.

His work as head coach of the University of Miami is said to be what helped Jim Kelly to become an excellent quarterback. There are many football legends that all were part of the Lou Saban coaching career. In spite of being beyond retirement age years ago, Lou Saban continues to give his football expertise, knowledge and coaching skills to whatever team he can as he continues to coach.

Every person that has every enjoyed sports enough to become a coach knows something about the John Wooden coaching career. John Wooden is a retired American basketball coach, who is also regarded as the greatest college coach in history.

John Wooden is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a coach and a player. Wooden won 10 NCAA National Championships while he was at UCLA. This record has yet to be matched.

The John Wooden coaching career started in John’s early life when he got his first start in sports in high school. He was not a coach, yet, but his knowledge and skill of the game began there. John Wooden played basketball for Martinsville High School in Indiana, where his skills let the team to the state championships for three consecutive years.

After high school, John went to Purdue University, where he was once again very successful, being All-American guard three times, and named All-Big Ten and All-Midwestern. He was given the nickname “The Indiana Rubber Man” for his daring dives on the court. After he graduated from Purdue, he went to Indiana State Teacher’s College, earned his Master’s Degree and stayed on as athletic director and basketball coach.

It is here that the John Wooden coaching career began.

John coached high school teams in Dayton High School in Kentucky for two years. He had a losing record his first year there-a first and only time in the John Wooden coaching career.

He then went to South Bend Central High School and coached basketball with a winning record. After college, Wooden played professional sport with the Indianapolis Kautskys, taught, and coached at high schools for a few years before joining the Navy.

Upon return from the Navy, John coached at Indiana State University and acted as athletic director.

His team won and was invited to the NAIB National Tournament in Kansas City, an invite John declined because of their policy banning African American players. The next year the rule was changed and John took his team there and went to the finals. John became, that year, the first African-American to play in a post-season intercollegiate basketball tournament.

A true measure of success in the John Wooden coaching career came on February 3, 1984 when John Wooden was inducted into the Indiana University Athletic Hall of Fame.

When John was at UCLA, his team had a record for winning more national championships than any other team. John won many awards for his great work at UCLA such as Henry Iba Award USBWA College Basketball Coach of the Year, Sport’s Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award to name a few. Since 1977, a John R. Wooden Award has been given to one of the four basketball player of the year awards. Any athlete’s dream come true would be to have a John Wooden coaching career.

The world of sports and athletes sounds very interesting and exciting to the individuals wanting to become a part of it. Even more exciting is when the sports are professional sports and professional athletes.

Many individuals hope for a career in this field, specifically a career for coaching professional athletes. The job of coaching professional athletes sounds very exciting and prestigious, but many don’t realize the hard work and dedication involved in a career for coaching professional athletes.

Coaching professional athletes is a prestigious job, but a job that requires concentration and constant dedication to the athletes and team.

They have the task of organizing professional athletes and teaching them about individual and team sports. Anyone interested in a career for coaching professional athletes has to be prepared for a lot of hard work, work that sometimes may seem to never be rewarded. They hold practice drills to help improve the athlete’s form, technique and skills.

It is also the coach’s responsibility to instill good sportsmanship and teamwork into the athletes.

Coaches evaluate all the game plays as well as observing the competition and how they play. They are also occasionally in charge of ordering supplies and inventory.

In professional sports, when the team loses a game, often the coach is blamed. Many coaches of professional teams have had their jobs terminated at the end of a losing season. While this may not always seem fair, it is a risk they are taking when they are in a career for coaching professional athletes.

Having and keeping a career working with professional athletes is not something that happens overnight or just because it’s a career they want. Most of the time, they begin this dream while still in high school and are participating in sports.

From there they go on to college, luckily on an athletic scholarship. College is very expensive today, so it is to any student’s advantage if they can get a scholarship. Some athletes are so good at sports they go to college on 100% athletic scholarships.

Usually these athletes go into professional sports, often a career for coaching professional athletes. In addition to the regular years of college, there is also addition schooling required to become an athletic coach.
